Twenty-seven inches is a versatile size, but it does not determine sharpness, workspace or comfort. Start with viewing distance, applications, computer outputs and whether your priority is crisp text, smooth gaming, dependable colour or a one-cable laptop setup.
Resolution changes everyday use

Those figures follow from size and pixel count; they are not panel-quality scores. A 4K interface will commonly need scaling, so check your applications. Higher gaming resolution also places more demand on the graphics card.
Measure the complete setup
A 16:9 27-inch image is roughly 60 cm wide and 34 cm high, excluding bezel and stand. Check the maker’s complete dimensions, stand depth, maximum height and your eye distance. A compatible VESA arm can release desk space, but pattern, supported weight and desk stability must all match.
Refresh rate and motion
For office work, 60–75 Hz may be enough; higher refresh makes movement smoother and can benefit games. The advertised mode only works when resolution, input, cable and GPU support the same combination. A “1 ms” claim is not a complete comparison either: methods differ and aggressive overdrive can create visible inverse trails. Seek independent measurements of the exact model.
Panel families in context
- IPS: commonly prioritises viewing angles and consistency, while contrast and glow vary.
- VA: commonly offers stronger native contrast, though some dark transitions may be slower.
- OLED: offers deep black and fast response, with price, static-content care, brightness and warranty to examine.
Start connections at the computer
- List the machine’s actual HDMI, DisplayPort or USB‑C outputs.
- Check the resolution and refresh supported by the monitor’s individual input.
- For USB‑C, verify video, charging wattage and data explicitly; the connector alone promises none of them.
- For two computers, consider quick input switching or a KVM if peripherals will also be shared.
- Confirm the required cable is included and supports the intended mode.
Ergonomics worth paying for
Height, tilt and swivel adjustment usually matter more than decorative stand design. A comfortable image position depends on your posture, so there is no universal height. Pivot can help with long documents or code. Also inspect control access, port placement and whether the power supply is internal or external.
Colour and HDR claims
For general use, a sensible sRGB mode is useful. Editing calls for stated coverage, calibration, uniformity and suitable controls; wide coverage alone does not guarantee factory accuracy. “HDR compatible” also says little about the final image without contrast, sustainable brightness, local dimming and colour-depth information.
