Parcent: raisin-drying buildings and the paths to Coll de Rates

Raisins help explain Parcent beyond its mountain views. The riuraus and transport paths belong to the same story: growing Muscat grapes left buildings and routes that still give meaning to the Vall de Pop landscape.

A riurau is not a winery

These buildings sheltered grapes while they dried. The Riuraus Route brings together places associated with that work and the nineteenth-century raisin export trade; it is not one continuous walk that you need to complete from end to end.

In Parcent, the council distinguishes two kinds of access: Riurau de la Solana can be seen from the path, while Riurau del Primo is listed as private and open by appointment. Arrange any interior visit beforehand; seeing arches from outside does not mean the property is open.

Choosing a path from the village

Camí de les Voltes, which includes a restored paved section, linked the village with Tàrbena and carried raisin traffic. The council distinguishes the 8.5 km ascent to Penyó via Coll de Rates from the 15 km PR-V158 circuit through Carrascar. These are different walks, not two names for a short stroll.

For a village visit, make the washhouse a stop: its spring and gathering space offer a connection with everyday life without a mountain ascent. Local food includes aspencat, a vegetable dish, and savoury tomato cocas.

Our suggestion is to choose between village and mountain first. If you opt for a trail, check its full course and the day’s notices before setting out; do not judge the effort solely by distance or add Carrascar to the end of another walk on impulse.
