Start with a map to understand Almoradí. Reconstruction after the 1829 earthquake left a regular street pattern that remains legible today. The municipal heritage catalogue protects this historic core, known as Larramendi’s plan: the shape of the town is part of its heritage.
Following the story of the earthquake
Plaza de la Constitución is a starting point for connecting that history with the town itself. The Earthquake Museum tells the story of destruction and rebuilding through an immersive experience. Its municipal website presents the transformation as the birth of a new town, not simply a record of damaged buildings.
Turisme describes a visit lasting about 45 minutes, for groups of up to six, requiring advance booking and recommended from age eight. These are published visitor conditions, not a guarantee of availability: confirm a session before arranging the rest of your day around it.
Water shapes the next part of the visit
San Andrés church is a landmark in the centre, while the Alfeitamí weir shifts attention to the irrigated farmland. The Water Route links features including irrigation channels and drainage channels, locally called acequias and azarbes. This system says more about Almoradí than an unspecific recommendation to see its «rural scenery».
Our suggestion is to choose between exploring the rebuilt town in more depth and extending your visit to its water infrastructure. Before heading to the weir, locate the official route and access point; a channel on a map does not establish a public right of way. The fields remain a working landscape.
