If your mammogram appointment clashes with work, travel or family commitments, you can ask for a different date. Sanitat directs women to the telephone number on their invitation letter. Keep the letter after the test too: it identifies the unit managing your participation in the Valencian screening programme.
Your prevention unit is the contact point
Sanitat’s participation guidance describes free screening for women aged 45 to 69, usually every two years. The invitation gives the location, date and time. This is the age range on the regional page checked on 1 November 2026; contact your unit to confirm your individual inclusion.
If you have lost the letter or do not know whom to call, the official breast cancer prevention unit directory lists telephone numbers and addresses by health department. Find your assigned unit; the one nearest your home may serve a different area. A programme appointment is separate from a mammogram requested for another clinical reason.
Three situations to keep apart
- You cannot attend: request a change using the instructions in the letter. Do not assume that missing the appointment automatically generates another one.
- You are recalled for assessment: the team may need more images or tests. A recall alone does not confirm cancer; ask them to explain what happens next.
- You have had the test but no result: ask your unit about your case and how the result will reach you. Sanitat describes normal results being sent by letter; silence should not be treated as a negative result.
Breast compression during the mammogram can be uncomfortable. You can raise questions with the team beforehand and ask about the benefits and limits of screening: false negatives can occur, and some detected lesions would never have progressed.
If you notice a lump or another change between screening rounds, consult your doctor without waiting for the next invitation. If you already have a separate follow-up plan, check with your clinical team which schedule you should follow.
