In the heart of Cascais, an emblematic city on the Portuguese coast, a promotional campaign has been launched that puts Alicante at the center of the tourist map. It is not a pleasure trip, but a positioning strategy: the General Director of Tourism of the Valencian Community, Israel Martínez, has presented the city as a tourist destination and for major nautical events to professionals in the sector, Portuguese media and prescribers. The initiative, organized by the Municipal Patronage of Tourism and Beaches of Alicante, is not limited to a technical presentation: it includes a stand with the brands Alicante City & Beach and Turisme Comunitat Valenciana, a photographic exhibition about the attractions of the city and tastings of local products. All this in Largo Cidade de Vitória, one of the most emblematic spaces of the Portuguese city. Martínez has highlighted that Portugal is a close market with an “important growth potential” for the Valencian Community, especially for Alicante, due to its connectivity, offer and capacity to host major events related to the sea. The city combines urban beaches, gastronomy, culture, favorable climate and a consolidated position in the nautical field, factors that reinforce its competitiveness as an international destination. The strategy is completed with concrete data: during the summer season of 2026, Alicante will have 113,050 air seats connected to Portugal through routes with Lisbon and Porto operated by Ryanair and TAP. This volume of flights is not a secondary data: it is a key infrastructure to attract visitors. The Portuguese market, due to its proximity, air connectivity and preference for Mediterranean destinations with beach, gastronomy, culture and events offer, represents a real opportunity. The campaign is not an isolated act, but part of a broader strategy to diversify tourist demand throughout the year. The objective is clear: to turn Alicante into a Mediterranean reference in urban, gastronomic, nautical and event tourism, especially in a market that already shows interest. The action in Cascais not only promotes a city, but a model of tourism that combines accessibility, diverse offer and capacity to host major events. The message is clear: Alicante is not only on the map, it is moving.
