Real Betis won 1-2 against Villarreal at the Estadio de La Cerámica after equalizing the score before halftime. Gerard Moreno put the home team ahead in the 29th minute, but Cucho Hernández equalized the score and Natan completed the Betis reaction during the first half.

The match began with chances in both areas. Bellerín forced Gulácsi to intervene and Villarreal responded with an action by Santi Comesaña that ended on the crossbar after touching the goalkeeper Valles. The Castellon team also saw two goals disallowed for offside before Gerard Moreno managed to score the valid goal.

The local advantage lasted little. Betis reacted without waiting for the second half and scored its two goals in a stretch of fourteen minutes. The break came already with the 1-2, a relevant temporal order to correctly explain how the comeback occurred.

After the resumption, Manuel Pellegrini’s team generated the clearest opportunities to extend their lead, although the score did not change again. The Betis coach later maintained that his team could have achieved a greater difference. Iñigo Pérez, Villarreal coach, admitted that the image offered in that second half affected the team.

The difference between the two sides defines the match. Before halftime there was an exchange of chances and three valid goals; after, Betis better controlled the development and was closer to increasing the lead than Villarreal to equalize. The comeback, however, had already been completed in the first half.

The victory leaves Betis with twelve points out of fifteen possible at the beginning of LaLiga. Villarreal, on the other hand, continues to not know victory this season and has gone five games without winning. The precedent of 2021 was a victory of the groguet team with two goals from Danjuma; since then, Villarreal has not defeated Betis at home again.

The result confirms the opposite dynamics of both teams: Betis maintains its good start and Villarreal will have to correct both its response after conceding and the lack of effectiveness that has marked its first matches.
