The Generalitat Valenciana has granted 1,005,948.66 euros in aid to improve the accessibility of public buildings in twelve municipalities in the province of Valencia. The call is especially aimed at localities with lower budgetary capacity and seeks to facilitate the access of all citizens to municipal services.
The subsidized actions include the elimination of architectural barriers, the installation of elevators and hoist platforms, the construction of ramps and the adaptation of bathrooms. The works are focused on public buildings, including spaces that serve the elderly, people with disabilities or with functional diversity.
The beneficiary municipalities are distributed across different Valencian regions. The aid allows municipalities with reduced budgets to carry out interventions that, otherwise, could take longer. Each municipality must carry out the planned works and justify the use of the funds in accordance with the conditions of the call.
The measure has a practical consequence: adapting an entrance, a bathroom or an interior route expands the actual use of the building and reduces the dependence on external help. It also improves the conditions for those who use baby carriages or have temporarily reduced mobility.
The interventions are not identical in all municipalities. Each building starts from different barriers and requires a concrete solution, from saving elevations to communicating floors or adapting care areas. Financing groups these needs under the same objective of accessibility. The final scope will depend on the execution of each municipal project and its subsequent public verification.
The amount announced corresponds to grants granted, so it does not necessarily equate to already completed works. The result must be verified as the municipalities complete the actions. The priority expressed by the Generalitat is to reduce inequalities in access to public services and strengthen cohesion between localities with different economic capacities.
