Education authority signs two agreements on staff conditions and resources in concerted schools

What happened: The Education Department signed two agreements with unions and school employers. One allows eligible teachers to reduce working time by 75% under partial-retirement rules, alongside a permanent full-time replacement contract. The other increases specialist hours in special education and secures 1,410 weekly vocational-education hours, plus 455 additional hours.

€4.46 million in university-fee scholarships awarded to 5,173 students

What happened: The award covers the 2025–2026 academic year and first- and second-enrolment credits on official bachelor’s and master’s courses in the Valencian University System. Beneficiary numbers rose by 17.3% year on year and the total award is €4,462,246.43.

Four writers join the ninth Insula Dramataria Josep Lluís Sirera Laboratory

What happened: Julia Suay, Jacobo Julio Roger, Victoria Enguídanos and Vicent Francés were chosen from 48 proposals. They will develop texts in Valencian or Spanish through November with Paco Zarzoso and Víctor Sánchez Rodríguez, followed by a staged reading at Teatre Rialto in December.

Peñíscola postpones the Early and Baroque Music Festival closing pyromusical show

What happened: The show scheduled for midnight on 2 August at North Beach is postponed out of caution and respect amid active wildfires in Castellón. The organisers will announce a new date later. The rest of the festival retains nine concerts and parallel activities between 24 July and 2 August.

FRESCA! closes its sixth edition with 90% attendance

What happened: The Alicante festival ran from 13 to 25 July and has finished. Attendance rose 12% year on year, occupancy reached 90%, and five of its nine large-format shows sold out. It also presented two free FRESCA! Al Carrer events.

About 1,800 evacuated residents allowed home in Alfondeguilla, Chóvar and Sueras

What happened: CECOPI lifted evacuation in those three urban centres. The same release kept about 5,200 people evacuated from Artana, Eslida, Aín, Alcudia de Veo, Tales, three Betxí developments and the village of Artesa de Onda until at least 23:59 on 31 July. The wildfire covered about 9,600 hectares with an 82-kilometre perimeter.
