Emergencies
Confinement lifted in the urban centres of La Vilavella, Betxí and Onda
What happened: The evening CECOPI update lifted confinement in the urban centres of La Vilavella, Betxí and Onda. However, the Nueva Onda development remained confined; Solaig, Montserrat and Peña Negra in Betxí and the village of Artesa remained evacuated. Evacuations in another fourteen municipalities were also extended. The official release put the wildfire at about 10,000 hectares with a 75-kilometre perimeter.
- Stated validity: until 23:59 on 29 July
- Wildfire status: active in the official update
- People still evacuated: about 10,000
Who may be affected: Residents of affected municipalities, evacuated or confined people, and anyone who needs to travel near the wildfire.
What citizens can do: Check the exact location before returning or travelling. The lifting applied to urban centres, not to every development or outlying village.
What to check: The latest CECOPI and 112 update, areas still confined or evacuated, and road conditions.
La Vilavella residents were allowed home under temporary confinement
What happened: An earlier update on 28 July allowed evacuated La Vilavella residents to return home while remaining confined until 23:59. It advised bottled water until further notice and reported an operation involving 642 personnel, up to 34 aircraft and 18 Valencian Government forest-firefighting units.
- Nature of this report: earlier update, later superseded
- Confinement end stated at the time: 23:59 on 28 July
Who may be affected: Residents returning to La Vilavella, people still confined and services deployed to the wildfire.
What citizens can do: Read this as part of the timeline: the later release lifted confinement in the urban centres while retaining restrictions elsewhere.
What to check: The time of each notice, the latest CECOPI update and health guidance on smoke and water.
Education and universities
Education minister requests postponement of two sectoral meetings because of the wildfires
What happened: Regional education minister Carmen Ortí wrote to request the postponement of the General Conference on University Policy and the Education Sectoral Conference scheduled for 29 July. The source reports a request to the relevant national ministries; it does not itself confirm that either meeting was cancelled.
- Scheduled meeting date: 29 July 2026
- Status described: request for postponement
Who may be affected: National and regional administrations attending the meetings and officials responsible for university and education policy.
What citizens can do: Distinguish the political request from a confirmed postponement. There is no public procedure requiring action by residents.
What to check: The convening ministry’s final decision and, if postponed, the new date for each meeting.
Education proposes lower ratios for ages 0–3 and an eight-pupil cap in new UECO classrooms
What happened: The proposal submitted to unions reduces the 0–1 ratio from eight to seven children and the 1–2 ratio from thirteen to twelve. It retains the proposed cap of eighteen children aged 2–3 in Valencian Government centres. The twelve UECO classrooms authorised in the extraordinary period would have a maximum of eight pupils.
- Proposed ratios: 7 pupils (0–1), 12 (1–2) and 18 (2–3)
- New UECO classrooms: 12, capped at 8 pupils
- Investment cited with free 0–3 education: €658 million
Who may be affected: Families with children aged 0–3, nursery schools, primary schools, UECO pupils and teaching staff.
What citizens can do: Treat the figures as a sectoral-table proposal and wait for final rules or a school notice before planning groups or enrolment.
What to check: Final ratios, affected centres, implementation year and the corresponding official publication.
Alcoy to pilot FP+U route linking two higher vocational programmes with UPV Business Administration
What happened: The FP+U (2+3) pilot will start next academic year for students who have completed International Trade or Marketing and Advertising at IES Cotes Baixes and continue to the Business Administration degree at UPV’s Alcoy campus. Credit recognition would allow that degree to be completed in three years rather than four.
- Route: 2 years of higher vocational education + 3 at university
- Initial scope: IES Cotes Baixes and UPV Alcoy campus
Who may be affected: Students in the two included vocational programmes who want to continue to Business Administration at UPV Alcoy.
What citizens can do: Ask the school and UPV about exact credit recognition and entry conditions. The pilot does not shorten every university degree.
What to check: Included programmes, recognised ECTS credits, entry to Business Administration, start year and agreement monitoring.
Terrorism-prevention education programme reaches about 18,500 students and 450 teachers
What happened: The Valencian Government reports cumulative participation in its Memory and Prevention of Terrorism in the Classroom programme for secondary and upper-secondary pupils. It combines teaching units, teacher training and testimony from victim educators; around twenty victims have taken part in the Valencian model.
- Cumulative participation: about 18,500 students and 450 teachers
- Victim educators: around 20
Who may be affected: Students, teachers, victim educators and participating secondary and upper-secondary schools.
What citizens can do: Ask the school whether it participates and what activities are planned. This is a programme update, not an open general registration.
What to check: Participating schools, education stages, materials, timetable and the school’s own notice.
Youth
Thirty-five young people join the first Verano Joven Camino de Santiago
What happened: The municipal activity is already under way. Thirty-five people aged 18–25 are spending seven days walking the French Way from Sarria to Santiago. All places were filled and more than 100 applications were placed on a waiting list.
- Status: activity started and places filled
- Route: five stages from Sarria to Santiago
- Duration: seven days
Who may be affected: Participants and people who followed the 2026 Verano Joven call.
What citizens can do: Do not present this as a grant or an open registration. Future editions should be checked through the council’s youth programme.
What to check: Future calls, age range, places, cost, included services and official registration channel.
Sport and municipal facilities
Valencia commissions design for refurbishment of more than twenty northern sports facilities
What happened: The council has awarded the contract to prepare the refurbishment design for neighbourhood sports facilities in Campanar, La Saïdia, Algirós, Benimaclet, Rascanya, Pobles del Nord and Pobles de l’Oest. The report describes the design stage; it does not yet announce construction or specific closures.
- Current phase: project design
- Scope: more than 20 facilities in seven districts
- Municipal network: more than 70 free-to-use spaces
Who may be affected: Facility users, clubs, included neighbourhoods and municipal sports services.
What citizens can do: Check future Municipal Sports Foundation notices for the works timetable, access and any temporary closures.
What to check: Facilities finally included, approved design, delivery timetable and alternatives during construction.
