The photograph was taken inside the rock shelter at Alfafara’s Cova de les Finestres. Its orange wall, natural hollows and opening towards the landscape are visible, but not a frontal view of the “windows” or the complete group of chambers. Darkness on the right records the shelter’s depth.
Twelve chambers were cut into the rock
Barranc del Pont Trencat contains twelve artificial chambers arranged on levels and partly connected. Their openings as seen from outside explain the name “Finestres”. The town council suggests a possibly Islamic origin and use as farm storage; this interpretation should not be stated as absolute certainty.
The descent contains the route’s difficulty
The route from Virgen de la Luz and San Antonio Chapel passes Font de Carbonell before descending to the shelter. Although short, it includes a steep slope and loose stone. Ladder access to some chambers does not mean every interior space suits every visitor.
Pantanet preserves another use of rock and water
The nearby ravine contains a rock-cut mill, remains of another mill and a small stone weir. Alfafara’s streets and squares at the foot of Mariola form a separate visit. Font del Tarragó, ice houses and archaeological sites require their own routes within the range.
This documentary review describes only visible evidence and distinguishes shelter, chambers, Pantanet and village. It does not verify dating, historic use, ladder, rockfall, surfaces, rain, water, opening, signs, signal or accessibility on site.
