Jijona: the Turrón Museum and Torre Grossa castle

If you come to Jijona to discover how turrón is made, one distinction matters: visiting a museum does not guarantee seeing a factory in production. What you can see depends on the business and its production season. This guide identifies one institution, the Turrón Museum, and separates it from the old town of Xixona.

A museum is not the same as a working factory

The Turrón Museum belongs to Confectionary Holding and preserves equipment and technological heritage associated with turrón and marzipan. It therefore tells a company’s story too; it is not a municipal collection representing all manufacturers equally.

The centre distinguishes its museum collection from the walkways above the El Lobo and 1880 factory. Its visitor information restricts the latter to a season and particular sessions, with an approximate break in the second half of August. If seeing production is your main reason to visit, confirm that specific part before travelling.

The museum’s address is on the Espartal II industrial estate, on the Busot road. Mark it as a separate destination when planning your visit, rather than looking for it in the old town. Other workshops and shops have their own visitor arrangements.

A different perspective from Torre Grossa

The castle occupies the hill above the town. It preserves remains of an Almohad enclosure and additions following the Christian conquest; its role was tied to defending the frontier of the Kingdom of Valencia. Torre Grossa is its best-known landmark.

Our suggestion is to devote part of the visit to turrón history and another to understanding how the castle relates to the town below. These are two ways of exploring Jijona, not a combined ticket or a promise of access inside every tower.
